GALA DROP
s/t
CD Gala Drop Records – 12.95 eur

“Adding weight to the suggestion that a rediscovery of Fourth World principles might be underway – Gang Gang Dance “Saint Dymphna” providing the rallying cry for a host of outfits appropriating indigenous musics – the debut from Lisbon’s Gala Drop is a confident work of sonic collage, taking in elements of dub and 23 Skidoo-style post-punk circa “The Gospel Comes To New Guinea” while displaying a skeletal melodicism owing much to “Future Days” and “Soon Over Babaluma”-era Can. Reservations concerning the blasé manner in which Gala Drop cut and paste their sources are overcome by the transcendent feel of the album’s seven tracks, with production work by Rafael Toral limning the percussive workouts with a space rock glow.”
(Joe Stannard in Wire #300, Fevereiro 2008)
