Na sua pequena biografia no All Music Guide solta-se logo uma comparação a Lily Allen. Não é de todo desajustada, as canções de Jack Peñate neste “Everything Is New” (segundo álbum) são orelhudas, vêm carregadas de um clima de festa contagiante e apontam todas descaradamente para single. A voz lembra Robert Smith, só que em vez de habitar no clima dos Cure, está num qualquer outro lugar colorido, sem ironias ou pretextos falsos. A ideia está logo presente no tema de abertura, “Pull My Heart Away” e continua no que dá título ao álbum, no single “Tonight’s Today” ou em “So Near”. De resto, habita na pop/rock britânica da década de 90, algo que só lhe fica bem: mais vale ir a fórmulas perfeitas do que andar a inventar. E cai tudo muito bem, mesmo em 2009.
