Formados em 1974, os Rocket From Tombs deram um punhado de concertos, nunca editaram um disco e tiveram menos de um ano de vida. Ao fim de muitas décadas de mito, em 2002, juntaram-se algumas peças soltas, demos, registos ao vivo e gravações bootleg para nos oferecer este “The Day The Earth Met…” e um marco na História do rock, bem como o berço daquilo que seriam os Pere Ubu e Dead Boys, e uma influência directa para grande parte do punk e do garage rock que davam os primeiros passos nessa altura.

Não víamos David Thomas a tirar tempo na sua vida para ressuscitar os Rocket From The Tombs, mas com um nome de banda como este era inevitável uma segunda vida. Melhor: o Pai Ubu anunciou que haveria temas novos. Confessou ainda que “Barfly”, apesar de 37 anos depois da vida útil da banda, soa exactamente como se tivesse sido feito em 1974. Vindo de quem vem, não duvidamos, até porque o que está aqui, neste álbum, é mais uma explosão de rock visceral e ácido como só ouvimos em “The Day The Earth Met…”.
